The territorial police in Lira City have arrested a 33-year-old woman on allegations of aggravated defilement of a 14-year-old boy.

SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the spokesperson for the North Kyoga police region, identified the woman as Caroline Apiny, a resident of Ireda Agali cell in Lira City East division.

According to Okema, the unfortunate incident was reported to police by Isaac Omech, aged 55, the victim’s father, and the case was registered under CEB 785/2023.

Okema said that preliminary findings indicate that the victim was convinced by the suspect to meet her in an incomplete building in the neighbourhood and asked him to sit on her lap before she started playing with the victim’s sexual organ.

“According to the information we have obtained, the victim went and found Apiny seated on a plastic chair, where she welcomed him. Apiny later told him to have sex with her before removing her knickers, and she pushed the victim’s privates into hers and performed a sexual act,” said Okema.

According to Okema, the alleged crime was committed on October 29, 2023, and the suspect later threatened to harm the victim if he were to tell anybody about the incident.

Okema said that the victim later informed his father, who reported the case to the police.

“Our detectives visited the scene and documented it. Statements were also recorded from the witnesses, and the suspect is currently in police custody,” he added.

Charges of aggravated defilement have been prepared and sanctioned against the suspect, who is set to appear before court.

In 2018, a high court in Lira sentenced Harriet Atapar, a resident of Market Square Village, to five years of imprisonment. She was convicted of aggravated defilement after she was found guilty of using sachet waragi to lure a teenager to her house before having unlawful sexual intercourse with him.
