35 Rwandans and four Congolese nationals were remanded to Kisoro government prison on Tuesday November 26, 2019, after they were charged with alleged illegal entry in Uganda, at Kisoro magistrates court.

The suspects that were arrested in joint operations conducted by the police, Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) and sister security agencies in areas of Karumena, Russia and Muline in Kisoro municipality on Monday, appeared before magistrate Grade One Magistrate Raphael Vueni, who read them the charges.

However, whereas three Rwandans and one Congolese pleaded not guilty, the rest admitted the charges, pleaded guilty and prayed to the Magistrate for a lighter sentence.

But magistrate Vueni remanded the three Rwandans to Kisoro Government prison until December 18, 2019, when they will appear again in court for another mention of their case, as investigations continue.

He remanded the rest until November 27,2019 for their judgement.

While commenting about the operations, Captain Peter Mulima, who is the Kisoro Resident District Commissioner (RDC), said that the army and police are working around the clock to see that situation remains peaceful.
