Health Ministry Confirms 77 More Covid-19 Cases

The Ministry of Health has confirmed 77 new COVID-19 cases in Uganda bringing the cumulative total number of infections in the country to 2,756.

The new cases were confirmed from samples tested for COVID-19 on Thursday.

Of the 77 new cases, 65 are contacts and alerts and they include 42 from Kampala, 4 from Amuru, 4 from Kikuube, 4 from Mukono, 3 from Wakiso, 2 from Arua while Bundibugyo, Busia and Jinja recorded 1 case each.

9 health workers including 5 from Kampala, 2 from Kikuube, 1 from Arua and 1 from Gulu also tested positive for COVID-19.

3 truck drivers who arrived via the border points of Malaba, Vurra and Busia also tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 9 foreign truck drivers (7 Kenyans, 1 Congolese and 1 Tanzanian) also tested positive for COVID-19 and were denied entry into Uganda as per the presidential directive.

Out of 3,621 samples tested for COVID-19 on Thursday, 608 were from points of entry while 3,013 were from contacts and alerts.

The Ministry of Health also announced that the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 in Uganda has risen to 1,288.

Since Uganda began testing for COVID-19, a total of 367,423 samples have been tested.
