Bobiwine: 380 NUP Supporters Arrested,10 Security Vehicles Vandalized In Kampala Riots

The Joint Security Forces operations yesterday and today in Kampala Metropolitan area that was handled professionally after spontaneous violent demonstrations that was sparked off by the supporters of National Unity platform Presidential candidate, Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson ,Patrick Onyango revealed that violent demonstrators maliciously damaged several vehicles, looted properties, burnt tyres, blocked roads and indiscriminately threw stones to security personnel.
The joint security team responded by firing teargas, rubber bullets, water cannons, used batons and live bullets to control the violent demonstrators.
Intelligence agencies have been receiving credible reports that the group were planning to cause mass demonstrations in the Capital City, Kampala that shall be followed by other up country cities and towns.
Intelligence agencies had also picked information that the demonstrators were planning to damage government vehicles.

During yesterday’s demonstration seven government vehicles were damage. The following motor vehicles were damage:
UP 4833 – Windscreen, UP 5622windScreen,UP UP 4841-windscreen,UP 5564-windscreen,UP 7074 motorcycles.

Four police officers were injured.
The total number of casualty have increased from three (03) deaths to sixteen (16). We are still analysing and receiving reports of the casualties. The deceased are Mwanje Saudi Male adult 35 years from Katwe, Juma Sendagire 27 from Lusanja Kitesi, Amase 30 years from Kubbiri, Nahnka Daniel, Mwebesa Saddam 29, Mutaasa’s body was picked from Wandegeya.
Others have not yet been identified.
The injured have increased from 34 to 65 out of these 16 have been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment.
During the joint security operation 350 suspects have been arrested and detained in various police stations within Kampala Metropolitan Policing Area.
“They are being charged with various offences that includes but not limited to participating in unlawful demonstrations, inciting violence, malicious damage to properties, assault, theft and robbery. Their files are being worked on and they are likely to appear in court tomorrow or next week”, he said.
Police warned the youths who have been lured into participating in illegal activities to desist from such activities.
