Speke Resort and Conference Centre in Munyonyo, Kampala has reopened its Speke Resort Wellness Centre and has also announced that it has commenced Outdoor Zumba Classes to help their customers keep in shape with style.

Zumba dance has over the years gained momentum in Uganda having been introduced to the world by a Colombian dancer and cyclist/choreographer Alberto “Beto” “Power Pedal” Perez during the 1990s.

Ajit Singh, a manager at Speke Resort, said Zumba is a great dance-cardio option that’s an immersive experience for anyone and is not only effective but allows you to express yourself while getting in shape.

“Speke Resort Munyonyo brings you outdoor Zumba classes to be in shape with style. Give your calories one last dance with our outdoor Zumba classes every Monday at our wellness center,” Ajit said.

“Our wellness center has officially re-opened, be sure to fit in some fitness time so you can stay sharp,” he added. The outdoor Zumba classes at Speke Resort happen every Monday between 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm at the Speke Resort Wellness Centre for just Shs30, 000 per person.

Experts say Zumba gives you a calorie-burning cardiovascular workout in the atmosphere of a dance party. And because Zumba dancing burns calories so quickly, it can help you lose a significant amount of weight in one month.

Zumba targets lots of different muscle groups at once for total body toning. Boosts your heart health. You not only get aerobic benefits (it really gets your heart rate up), you also get anaerobic benefits – the kind that help you maintain a good cardiovascular respiratory system. Helps you de-stress.

Zumba involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic music. The choreography incorporates hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue and mambo. Squats and lunges are also included.

As a fitness option, zumba burns fat and calorie through aerobic activity done with interval training in mind. The average person will burn around 600 to 1,000 calories in a Zumba class. Zumba provides a workout for the whole body.
