The Uganda Police has dismissed social media reports making rounds on the appointment of Maj Gen Jackson Bakasumba as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP).

In a statement released via it’s socials on Sunday morning, Police clarified that the information circulating via social media and several publications is completely baseless and false as the appointing authority has yet to make a decision on appointing a new Deputy IGP.

“Please disregard all social media posts about the appointment of AIGP Jackson Bakasumba as the Deputy Inspector General of Police, which make false and baseless claims.” Police said via Facebook.

“It is untrue, and we demand that all media platforms remove their false stories.” Once the Appointing Authority fills the position with DIGP, we will effectively inform the public through our proven communication channels,” Police emphasized.

Since the sudden death of Maj Gen Lockech, who allegedly died of a blood clot, the office of the Deputy IGP has been vacant for over two months with several reports fronting Man. Gen Bakasumba as the likely officer to take over the position.

It remains to be seen if the appointment of Bakasumba will turn out to be true when President Museveni makes a final statement on the new Deputy IGP in the nearby future.
