At least 38 university students are confirmed to have been arrested by police at parliament today, for protesting against the increasing commodity prices and human rights abuses in the country.

The protestors, who were arrested by police before they could enter parliament, included students from Makerere University, Kyambogo University, among other universities.

The police didn’t give reasons for their arrest but hoarded all of them off the Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala, where they were still being held by the time of filing this article.

It should be noted that prices for fuel, food, bread, soap, salt and other basic commodities have been skyrocketing since the beginning of this year, something that has sparked off public outcry.

The protesters had chained themselves as a sign of discontent
The commodity prices started increasing shortly after fuel prices skyrocketed a few months ago.

However, despite the public outcry, the government is yet to come up with an official statement about the worrying economic situation.(UNNB)
