Ugandan leader President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has held talks with former Kenyan Prime Minister and 2022 presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga at State House Entebbe.

On May 19, Odinga paid Museveni a courtesy call. Also the African Union (AU) High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa, Odinga was returning from South Sudan for the commissioning of the 3.6km Freedom Bridge that will connect Juba to the rest of the region.

According to Museveni, he and Odinga discussed issues concerning Uganda and Kenya. “I received Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, who paid me a courtesy call at State House Entebbe this [May 19] evening. We discussed a wide range of issues concerning our two countries. I welcome him,” the Ugandan leader tweeted.

Odinga revealed that they had discussed ways of strengthening ties between Kampala and Nairobi. “We walked down memory lane to discuss the shared history of our countries aimed at forging stronger ties moving into the future. That formed the core of a pleasant discussion with President at State House in Entebbe, Uganda,” said Odinga.

President Museveni has previously made it clear that he will work with whichever person the Kenyan people choose as their president on August 09.  “Whoever is the President of Kenya, we shall work with him (or her). So long as he or she is elected by the people,” the president said in February.

The race to replace Uhuru Kenyatta is reportedly between his deputy William Ruto of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and Odinga of the Azimio La Umoja.
