President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commissioned a factory manufacturing concrete Railway Sleepers to be used on the ongoing construction project of the railway lines.

The concrete railway sleepers will be used for the construction of the SGR and MGR. While inspecting the factory at Kawolo-Lugazi, the president applauded Imathia Construction and the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) for coming up with such a great idea that utilises local content while employing the “Bazukulu”.

The President also noted that Concrete sleepers are an essential component of railway tracks, and their production locally will help reduce the cost of importing them.

The project manager at URC, Josephine Aguti, noted that the advantage of the concrete railway sleepers is that they are durable and less prone to vandalism.
