Over forty people have today morning survived with injuries after involving in a bus accident that happened at Katende in Kiringente Sub County, Mpigi District along Kampala-Masaka highway on Tuesday.

According to the Katonga Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr Joseph Tulya, the accident occurred after a bus Reg No UAS 177E belonging to Star Link Coaches collided with a Coaster Reg No UBB 184L.

“The driver of the bus knocked a Coaster from behind and they were all coming from Masaka side. At first, we had a hit and run fatal accident in the same place and when we were removing the body from the road, the bus driver who was speeding lost control and veered off the road, passed the road guards and fell in the valley. But the bus was in dangerous mechanical conditions and some passengers have told us that the bus failed to brake right from the beginning of the journey,” he told this reporter.

Those with serious injuries were rushed to Mpigi Health Center IV, St. Monica Health Center, Double Cure Medical Center and other nearby clinics while those with minor injuries were given first aid by members of the Red Cross and good Samaritans in the area.

“After causing the accident, the driver of the bus took off but we shall get him and be prosecuted in courts of law,” Mr Tulya said.
