A Primary Six pupil at Greenhill School, Buwate, has died three weeks after sustaining critical injuries in a suspected suicide incident that occurred late last month.

The boy, whose name has been withheld because he was a minor, reportedly fell from the second floor of a classroom block moments after leaving his classroom on October 22, 2025. According to a statement issued by the school shortly after the incident, CCTV footage showed the pupil leaving his seat, picking up toilet tissue, and rushing out of the classroom at around 4:03 p.m.

“He ran to the next class and jumped over the balcony,” the school said in its earlier communication.

Teachers immediately rushed him to hospital, where he was later joined by his family. He remained admitted for several weeks as medical teams worked to stabilise him. Despite intensive treatment, the pupil passed away on November 12, 2025, due to complications resulting from his injuries.

Greenhill School officials said they promptly notified police, the Ministry of Education, and child-welfare authorities after the incident and have continued to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.

“This is a devastating loss for our school community. We mourn the passing of our pupil and extend our deepest sympathies to the family,” a school official said.

Counsellors have since been deployed to provide emotional support to both learners and teachers as the school community grapples with the tragedy.

Education and child-welfare advocates say the incident underscores the urgent need to strengthen emotional-support structures in learning institutions, especially as cases of distress among minors continue to rise.

The bereaved family has requested privacy as they mourn the loss of their son.

Our efforts to speak to school management by press time were futile.
