Your Excellency,
Welcome to the Kigezi Sub-region — a community of gentle, hospitable, educated, and hardworking people spread across the six districts of Kabale, Rukungiri, Kisoro, Kanungu, Rubanda, and Rukiga.
As I write, it is now crystal clear that in the over 50 districts where the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate and National Chairman, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has held rallies, he will win massively. More Ugandans are waking up civically, appreciating the NRM Campaign Manifesto and its theme of #ProtectingTheGains as we make a qualitative leap into high middle-income status.
Kigezi, like all other regions, has many reasons to continue #ProtectingTheGains with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa at the helm.
On education, every sub-county has received, or is receiving, a government Secondary Seed School. Additionally, Kigezi hosts a Presidential Skilling Hub that equips youth with hands-on skills to spur job creation and employment—especially among the youth bulge.
Still in education, over 90% of parishes across the Kigezi region have government-aided primary schools, except for a few where local leadership has been inactive.
On infrastructure development, the region now enjoys tarmacked roads from Ntungamo–Kabale–Rubanda–Kisoro and from Ntungamo–Rukungiri–Kanungu. A few remaining tourism connection roads still need attention.
On health, Health Centre IIs across the region are being upgraded to Health Centre IIIs, and in several sub-counties, some Health Centre IIIs have been elevated to Health Centre IVs. The region boasts Kabale Regional Referral Hospital and collaborates effectively with private and church-owned facilities like Rugarama Hospital, Kisizi, Nyakibale, among others — all aimed at strengthening Universal Health Coverage, a commitment Uganda upholds.
On peace and security, Kigezi is now relatively more secure, boosting trade especially across the borders with Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Security in the region is top-notch and remains a major advantage. Only petty crimes and village-level theft threaten people’s property; these must be addressed as they undermine community gains and stability.
On wealth creation, the Parish Development Model (PDM) has energised local economies across districts with focused leadership. Although some parishes have misused funds, the majority who have benefited remain grateful to the NRM and demand that more funds be allocated.
More achievements for the Kigezi region will be highlighted in subsequent writings. For Kigezi, the NRM Government under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will continue addressing presidential pledges, expanding the road network, upgrading health centres, bridging staffing gaps, eliminating drug stock-outs, improving classroom infrastructure, extending clean piped water and electricity, and increasing PDM funds.
In the next term of office, the NRM Government must put greater emphasis on combating corruption in local governments.
Kigezi region will vote massively for the NRM, and President Museveni’s percentage will increase across the region. However, we must work together to address voter apathy.
Once again, my President, welcome to the Kigezi region.
