The High Court in Kampala has ruled that businesswoman Molly Katanga has a case to answer in connection with the death of her husband, Henry Katanga.

In a ruling delivered on Friday, the court found that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence requiring Katanga to defend herself against the charge of murder.

The decision means the trial will now proceed to the defence stage, where she will be expected to respond to the allegations.Henry Katanga died from a gunshot wound at the couple’s home in Kampala in November 2023.

Prosecutors allege that Molly Katanga unlawfully caused his death, while the defence has previously indicated that the incident was not premeditated and has raised questions surrounding the circumstances of the shooting.

The court emphasized that at this stage, it was not determining guilt but rather assessing whether the evidence on record warrants the accused to be put on her defence.

Katanga has denied the charges and remains on remand as the trial continues. The case has drawn widespread public attention due to the prominence of the individuals involved.More details are expected as the defence presents its case in the coming court sessions.
