Old Mutual Uganda has launched Thrive by Old Mutual, a digital wellness application designed to help Ugandans take a more active role in managing their financial, physical, mental and nutritional wellbeing.
The application was unveiled at a launch event held at MoTIV in Bugolobi, Kampala, bringing together customers, partners, wellness professionals, fitness communities and other stakeholders.
Thrive combines wellness resources in a single digital platform, providing users with information, tools and support intended to help them make more informed decisions about different aspects of their wellbeing.
The launch comes amid growing concern about mental health and the broader relationship between financial security, physical health, nutrition and psychological wellbeing.
The National Planning Authority’s State of Uganda Population Report 2025, themed “Mental Health: A Silent Emergency”, reported that mental health cases increased by more than 71 per cent between 2021 and 2024, with nearly one in four Ugandans affected.
Speaking at the launch, Zac Kisesi, Managing Director of Old Mutual Investment Group Uganda, said financial wellness should be viewed as part of a person’s broader wellbeing.
“Financial wellbeing is not simply about how much money a person earns; it is about the confidence to make informed decisions, plan for the future and steadily work towards the life you want,” Kisesi said.
He said Thrive is intended to make financial wellness more accessible by helping users develop better financial habits and engage with their goals as part of their everyday lives.
Andrew Makumbi, Managing Director of Old Mutual Insurance Uganda, said the platform reflects a broader role for insurers beyond responding to risks after they occur.
“Protection should also mean helping customers reduce risk, build healthier lifestyles and make choices that strengthen their overall wellbeing,” Makumbi said.
Patrick Kimathi, Managing Director of Old Mutual Life Assurance Uganda, said the initiative also reflects the importance of taking a long-term approach to wellbeing.
According to Kimathi, everyday decisions around health, finances and planning can contribute to people’s ability to prepare for the future and protect the people and goals that matter to them. The platform comes as Uganda’s digital audience continues to expand.
The Uganda Communications Commission’s Q2 2026 Market Performance Report shows that active mobile internet subscriptions rose from 17.9 million in March to 19.7 million by June 2026, while active mobile subscriptions increased from 47.5 million to 49 million during the same period.
Old Mutual says the growing use of digital services presents an opportunity to make wellness information, tools and support more accessible.
The Thrive experience also includes fitness sessions and challenges, financial and mental wellness conversations, meditation, yoga, relaxation activities and nutrition consultations.
Users can also earn access to benefits and vouchers from selected partners when they complete wellness challenges through the platform.
Old Mutual said Thrive is intended to support the development of a sustained wellness community in Uganda, encouraging users to make consistent improvements across financial, physical, mental and nutritional wellbeing.
The application is available at no cost on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
