Several people have been injured after a church building reportedly associated with Pastor Ronnie Makabai collapsed in Kawuku on Monday evening, leaving workers trapped under the debris.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene to rescue the victims, with more than 10 people reportedly pulled from the wreckage and transported to Entebbe Grade B Hospital and Kisubi Hospital for medical attention.
Police confirmed the incident, saying officers had secured the area as rescue teams continued searching for anyone who might still be trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
ASP Edith Natukunda, the Entebbe Community Liaison Officer, said the building was still under construction when it came down, burying several people beneath the rubble.
According to Natukunda, ambulances were deployed to evacuate the injured, with some victims taken to Entebbe Grade B Hospital and others transferred to Kisubi Hospital for treatment.
She revealed that one of the victims was in critical condition, although some of those rescued earlier were reportedly showing signs of recovery.
By press time, rescue operations were still underway as emergency teams worked to establish whether additional people remained trapped inside the wreckage.
Police had cordoned off the scene to facilitate rescue efforts and prevent members of the public from interfering with the operation.
The collapse has raised concerns about the safety of buildings under construction, particularly where workers may be exposed to risks if structures fail before completion.
However, the circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear, and authorities had not yet established what caused the building to collapse.
Further details regarding the number of casualties, the condition of the injured and the circumstances leading to the collapse were expected as rescue operations continued.
