Four more bodies have been recovered from the rubbles of the two-storied building that collapsed in Jinja town in eastern Uganda on Wednesday.

The dead have been identified as Dennis Muhoofa aged 28, Saad Basalirwa, 18, and Joseph Isabirye while the identity of the fourth victim is yet to be established. The building located on Plot 17 Gokhale road collapsed on Wednesday leaving scores trapped.

The recovery of the four bodies on Thursday brings the number of people who died from the building to six. The operation to search for any survivors trapped in the rubble resumed on Thursday and is expected to continue on Friday.

Swaibu Walubo a supervisor at the collapsed building says that at least 45 people reported for duty on Wednesday.

“We were about 45 registered employees yesterday, and of these four have been confirmed dead, 14 are in different hospitals but the rest are still missing,” he says.

Diana Nandawula, the Kiira region police spokesperson says that the rescue process is still on-going to ensure that nobody is left under the rubble.

The collapse of the building was attributed to poor workmanship. The building was also under construction without supervision from the municipal authorities.

About two weeks ago, another six people were killed when a building under construction collapsed in Kasanga, a Kampala suburb. The incomplete building caved in with analysts saying the building project had flouted all the basic engineering and construction basics due to lack of supervision from authorities.urn
