The Ugandan government has initiated the process to establish a new Board of Directors for Uganda Airlines, following the conclusion of the current board’s term.

The outgoing board, which was officially constituted on April 1, 2022, completed its three-year mandate on March 31, 2025. This marked the end of the first full-term board since the airline’s revival. The previous interim board, appointed in 2019, had overseen the airline’s relaunch and early operations.

With the board’s term officially over, some uncertainty has emerged among staff regarding the airline’s leadership transition. However, Waiswa Bageya, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Works and Transport, assured that the process to appoint a new board is already underway.

“The necessary steps are being taken, although the process began a little later than planned,” Bageya stated. He declined to specify when the new board would be fully constituted.

The board has been chaired by Priscilla Mirembe Serukka and includes members such as Herbert Kamuntu, Barbara Namugambe, Ebrahim Kisoro Sadrudin, Samson Rwahwire, Patrick Ocailap, Moding Abdi Karim, and the airline’s CEO, Jenifer Bamuturaki.

Bageya suggested that some members of the outgoing board may be reappointed, as they remain eligible for another term.

As for the Chief Executive Officer, Bageya clarified that her role is handled separately and falls under the direct authority of President Yoweri Museveni. Jenifer Bamuturaki was appointed in mid-2022, following the dismissal of her predecessor, Cornwell Muleya, who faced accusations including financial misconduct and irregularities in staff recruitment.

The formation of the new board is seen as a critical step in strengthening the national carrier’s governance and performance going forward.
