Security agencies in Wakiso District have launched an intensive search for a group of masked gunmen who carried out a violent robbery on a mobile money operator in Ganda Village, Nansana Municipality. The incident occurred on the evening of May 13, 2025, at approximately 8 p.m., when 37-year-old Jonan Ahimbisibwe was ambushed outside his home.

According to police, Ahimbisibwe had just arrived in his Toyota Harrier (registration SSD 763 CM) when the assailants struck. Armed and concealed by masks, the attackers fired warning shots, used pepper spray to incapacitate the victim, and forcibly gained access to his vehicle. They made off with Shs 50 million in cash before fleeing the scene.

Emergency responders from the police arrived shortly after and provided assistance to the victim, who was later treated at Kisaakye Medical Centre for the effects of the pepper spray and trauma resulting from the attack.

The incident has unsettled residents of Ganda, a community long considered peaceful and secure. In response, local leaders have begun convening urgent meetings to discuss ways to enhance neighborhood security.

Some community members are now exploring the possibility of hiring private security personnel or installing surveillance systems to protect their homes and businesses.

Police have assured the public that they will intensify patrols and increase engagement with residents to help restore confidence and prevent similar attacks.

This robbery is one of several recent violent crimes reported in Wakiso District, which experts attribute to factors such as high unemployment, limited policing capacity, and economic hardship.
