Like the old adage says, “Money cannot buy everything”, Sanjay Tanna has reportedly lost the NRM Eastern Vice Chairperson race after splashing Shs4.1billion in the campaigns.FT

Former Tororo Municipality MP Tanna bite more than he could swallow when he decided to contest against the incumbent Capt Mike Mukula for the NRM Vice Chairperson, Eastern region.

According to results following the Thursday elections, Mukula won comfortably with 5,818, while his closest rival Sanjay Tanna trailed with 4162 as Christine Harriet Akello got only 162.

According to sources, Tanna is grief-stricken having splashed over 4.1bn to the national delegates in a bid to win their favour to vote him.

This website recently reported how Sanjay Tanna has been secretly receiving funds from the Indian community to oust Mukula. Apparently, Tanna who is of Indian origin received up to about Shs2bn from Indian government and other Indian businessmen in Uganda to fund his campaigns.

All the monies have gone to waste after NRM delegates preferred to retain their own-Mike Mukula who has played a magnificent role in promoting and lifting the NRM Party interests. Apparently, Tanna is very devastated with the loss and is bitter with everyone around him.

“He is totally inconsolable. He can’t believe he lost the race having spent that much in the campaigns,” a source confided in us.

Meanwhile in other results, Kadaga retained her seat as 2nd vice national chairperson (female) with 6,776 votes beating her close rival Persis Namuganza (State minister for Lands) by about 3,000 votes.

Simon Aleper retained his seat as NRM vice chairperson for Karamoja beating his opponent Jimmy Lokoru who only got 2,220 votes as the incumbent got 8,143.
