East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Jacqueline Amongin has been officially appointed by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to lead President Yoweri Museveni’s re-election campaign in the Teso sub-region. She will spearhead the campaign alongside Prime Minister Samuel Engeyu and Hon. Eresu Paul.
The announcement was made during a coordination meeting of the NRM held in Kyandondo. In her acceptance speech, Amongin expressed deep gratitude to President Museveni and the NRM Secretary General for entrusting her with such a critical role.
“I am honored by the confidence placed in me by His Excellency and the party leadership. I pledge my full commitment to deliver victory for the NRM in Teso,” Amongin said.
Amongin also addressed her political future, clarifying that she will not contest as an independent candidate for the Ngora parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2026 elections. Instead, she reaffirmed her dedication to representing Uganda in the East African Legislative Assembly, following the January elections.
“As a daughter of Ngora, my heart is always with the people. I urge all of you to vote overwhelmingly for President Museveni, even though I won’t be in the parliamentary race. I remain committed to serving our country and the NRM,” she added.
In addition to her role in EALA, Amongin currently serves as the National General Secretary of the NRM Women’s League.
Her appointment signals the party’s strategic focus on consolidating support in Teso, a region considered key to the NRM’s electoral success in the 2026 general elections.
