Gen.Gutti Sentences UPDF Officer,3 Civilians To Death

The General Court Martial sitting in Makindye Monday sentenced four people to death on robbery and murder charges.

The four machete-wielding men are part of the six-man criminal gang arrested in parts of Masaka region.

They are; Rtd Corporal Paul Kiwanuka, Steven Kayemba, John Bosco Waligo, Julius Tweheyo aka Rutwiigi, Gerevazio Kankanka and Tumwesigye Mudathiru.

The General Court Martial Chairman Lt Gen Andrew Gutti ordered the retired UPDF soldier, Corporal Kiwanuka, Kayemba, Waliggo and Julius Tweheyo alias Rutwiigi killed.

They allegedly raided Muto Hardware along Buddu Street in Masaka Town before stealing Shs435m.

They then murdered Shafik Kiggundu, a casual Labourer and Moses Musinguzi, a security guard.

Their accomplices Gerevazio Kankanka was sentenced to 43 years and 8 months in jail while Mudathiru Tumwesigye was sentenced to 44 years.

They were convicted on December 10 for murder and robbery.

Gen Gutti has ruled that the persons they killed left families that are now suffering because of the convicts’ acts.

Court has also ordered the convicts to refund Shs40m, a motorcycle and a motor vehicle Toyota Premio to businessman Moses Kalisa.edgeug
