Gen Saleh Bids Farewell to Outgoing Dutch Ambassador, Reaffirms Uganda-Netherlands Partnership

KAMPALA — The Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Gen. Salim Saleh has reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with the Kingdom of the Netherlands following a farewell meeting with the outgoing Dutch Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Frederieke Quispel, as she concluded her diplomatic tour of duty.

The meeting, which took place on July 16 ahead of Ambassador Quispel’s departure from Uganda the following day, focused on reviewing the progress made in bilateral relations and exploring opportunities to deepen cooperation in key sectors critical to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.

According to a media statement issued after the meeting, the discussions centred on enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, agriculture, aquaculture, value addition, enterprise development and other areas of mutual interest.

General Saleh highlighted the importance of the longstanding relationship between Uganda and the Netherlands, noting that the two countries have built a strong partnership founded on mutual respect, shared development aspirations and constructive engagement.

He commended Ambassador Quispel for her distinguished service during her tenure in Uganda, praising her role in advancing bilateral cooperation and fostering closer ties between the two nations.

General Saleh also wished the ambassador success as she concluded her diplomatic assignment in Uganda and prepared to take up her new responsibilities at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Quispel expressed gratitude for the cooperation and support she received throughout her posting, describing her tenure in Uganda as productive and rewarding.

She appreciated the cordial working relationship with the Ugandan government and reaffirmed the Netherlands’ commitment to maintaining strong ties with Uganda beyond her tenure.

The ambassador also pledged continued Dutch support for initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development, economic growth and shared prosperity, while expressing confidence that the longstanding partnership between the two countries would continue to grow.

Both sides welcomed the opportunity to build on the solid foundation established over the years and expressed optimism that Uganda–Netherlands relations would continue to flourish under the leadership of the incoming Dutch Ambassador.

The Netherlands remains one of Uganda’s key development and trade partners, with cooperation spanning agriculture, water management, private sector development, governance, climate resilience and investment promotion. The farewell meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to expanding this partnership for the benefit of their respective citizens.
