Hijab Nation Season 3 Puts Muslim Women and Girls in the Spotlight

Kampala, Uganda — Muslim women and girls took centre stage in Kampala over the weekend as Hijab Nation Season 3 brought together faith, entrepreneurship, technology and health in a three-day event that ended on Sunday.

Held from August 28 to 30 under the theme “Where Hijab Meets Tech & Entrepreneurship,” the third edition combined a girls’ programme, a Halal business expo, free medical services, empowerment sessions and an awards ceremony.

The event attracted Muslim women, young girls, entrepreneurs and families, providing a platform for participants to showcase businesses, discuss issues affecting their communities and celebrate the hijab as part of their religious and personal identity.

The opening day focused on young girls, who participated in Qur’an recitations, poetry and performances. The activities were designed to encourage confidence and give the younger participants an opportunity to express themselves in a setting centred on their faith.

The second day shifted attention to entrepreneurship with the Halal Expo, where women-led businesses displayed products and services ranging from modest fashion and perfumes to coffee, printing and travel services, including Umrah packages.

Participants also received free information on taxation and business support.

The final day ended with an awards ceremony recognising individuals and contributors, alongside a marriage panel discussion and further business engagement.

Health was another major component of the programme, with TMR International Hospital running a free medical camp throughout the three days.

Attendees received blood pressure and BMI checks, random blood sugar testing, HIV screening and consultations relating to chronic conditions. A female doctor was also available, while participants were introduced to the hospital’s health application for virtual consultations and emergency services.

Hosted and livestreamed by Executive Media, the event brought together activities that organisers said were intended to address different aspects of life for Muslim women and girls.

With the third edition now concluded, attention will turn to the organisers’ plans for future editions and whether the combination of faith, business, technology and health will continue to shape the Hijab Nation platform.
