LThe Director of Women Affairs in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Member of Parliament representing the UPDF, Brigadier General Charity Bainababo, has called upon Ugandans “especially women” to confidently go out and vote, assuring them of the UPDF’s commitment to maintaining peace and security during the electoral process.

While addressing a group of women who are wives of soldiers in Entebbe municipality, Brig Gen Bainababo emphasized that the UPDF will be on the ground to guide and protect citizens as they exercise their democratic right to vote.

She noted that although some individuals attempt to create fear among the public during elections, there is no reason for panic because the UPDF will ensure security for all.

“People should go and vote without fear. The UPDF is here to protect Ugandans and ensure that everyone participates freely,” she assured.

Brig Gen Bainababo encouraged citizens to wear any color of T-shirt—yellow or otherwise—without intimidation, stressing that freedom of choice is a right guaranteed to every Ugandan. She commended President Yoweri Museveni for empowering women and granting them the freedom they enjoy today.

“Our President gave us freedom as women. Let us use that freedom responsibly—to speak, to work, and to vote,” she said.

She further urged women to remain focused and take advantage of the opportunities available to them to strengthen their families and communities. Brig Gen Bainababo encouraged them to exercise their democratic right by voting for the leader of their choice.

Beyond politics, the Brigadier General called on Ugandans to fight poverty and embrace wealth creation initiatives.

“We should work hard and focus on wealth creation. Poverty should not hold us back,” she added.

She highlighted that economic empowerment is key to sustaining the peace and freedom the country enjoys and urged women to engage in productive ventures.

Brig Gen Bainababo’s message revolved around three key themes: the importance of voting, the value of freedom, and the fight against poverty. She reassured citizens that the UPDF stands ready to safeguard peace, allowing all Ugandans to exercise their rights freely and work toward a prosperous future.
