Police in Nakawa are investigating the circumstances under which Ibrahim Ayiko, a brother to the Najjanakumbi FDC electoral commission Deputy Secretary Augustine Ojobire, was brutally stabbed to death.

This incident happened on the night of December 16, 2024, in Nakawa division, in the Kampala district.

Speaking to the media on December 17, 2024, Ojobire revealed that his brother Ayiko was stabbed to death on his way home from work by unidentified thugs.

However, it seemed the criminals were after his life because they took nothing after brutally stabbing him to death and left him in cold blood.

’’My brother had a phone that was stolen from him some time back, and he got a new one; however, at the crime scene, this very phone was dumped near his dead body at the crime scene, leaving us, his family, questioning the motive behind his death,’’ Ojobire said.

Ojobire said that his brother would not have survived due to the deep stab wounds that were inflicted into his stomach.

He called upon police to investigate the circumstances surrounding his brother’s death.

The defense secretary of Nakawa Market, Joseph Kibirige, revealed that the location where Ojobire’s brother Ayiko was brutally stabbed to death has become a dark spot for killings.

“Five people this year have been killed in such a manner,” Kibirige said.

Kibirige expressed the need for more patrols and heightened security in Nakawa sub-county because the crime rate is so high.

’’Security agencies need to sit down and find a solution to the high increment in crime cases in Makindye and Nakawa subcounties because it is so overwhelming for the local leaders to handle, making the locals in these two regions constantly live in fear and misery.’’ Kibirige said.

In 2024, Nakawa, Kampala, and the surrounding areas have witnessed several tragic incidents resulting in deaths, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety and violence in the area.

On 21 November 2024, Albert Cook Tugume, a brother of Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, was shot dead by unknown assailants and robbed of undisclosed amounts of money as he was leaving his mobile money shop in Ntinda. More people were also harmed by these assailants, and investigations are still underway.

The community is now calling for increased police presence and proactive measures to combat the rising tide of violence that has become all too common.
