The historic Igenge Hill Palace in Jinja North City Division, the official residence of the Kyabazinga of Busoga, is at the center of a legal battle that threatens its future.

Thirty individuals have filed a lawsuit against Kyabazinga William Nadiope IV, claiming ownership of the land on which the multi-billion-shilling palace stands.

The High Court in Kampala is now tasked with resolving the dispute, which could lead to the eviction of the Kyabazinga and the demolition of the palace if the claimants prevail. The land also hosts the International Institute of Technology, adding to the controversy.

Speaking to the press on November 18, 2024, Joseph Muvawala, the Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister, expressed the kingdom’s determination to protect its property. “This land is a heritage site belonging to the institution of Isebantu Kyabazinga wa Busoga. We will defend its ownership with all available legal.
