The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has met a group of Indian Investors based in the UK, and interested them in establishing industrial parks in the country.

She said that government’s plan is to establish 13 Industrial parks, but so far, only three are under construction in Mbale, Namanve and Kapeka.

“There are another eight to be established in different parts of the country. You can identify them and venture into that. The country now has widespread accessible roads and there is electricity everywhere,” she said.

Kadaga who met the investors at Parliament on Friday 31 January 2020 also asked them to consider investing in the Tourism sector, saying that it provides untapped opportunities, with various attraction sites.

“The hotels are now a big business and are spread out in the country. I want to interest you to put up a facility in the Semiliki National Park to construct a special health spa since there are hot springs there,” she said.

Kadaga pointed out that the growth of the private sector translates into more jobs for youths.

Sukhpal Ahluwalia, the Founder and Chairman Dominvs Group, a UK based company, who led a delegation of six Indian-UK based investors, expressed their interest in investing in Uganda, saying that the country provides vast investment opportunities.

“I was born in Kampala and brought up in Jinja. We left Uganda in 1972 to the UK and we started a business there but I have a natural attraction to come back to our motherland and we come and seek your blessing,” Ahluwalia said.

He said that their focus is on the transport sector, with plans to assemble vehicles aimed at providing affordable transport in rural areas.

“The plan is to start with assembling three wheeled cars in Uganda which are very efficient in transport. They would be manufactured in India and eventually when we are well established, the can be manufactured and distributed in Uganda,” he said.

Ahluwalia added that they are also seeking to obtain a license for ham production as well as production of fruits and vegetables.
