President Yoweri Museveni on Friday took his campaign trail to Kazo District, where he was warmly received by thousands of residents and local leaders.

The rally drew notable figures, including former Works Minister John Nasasira, who praised the President for what he described as decades of commitment toward transforming Uganda from “backwardness to progress.”

Nasasira reminded the crowd that in 2016, Kazo leaders asked the President for district status—a request that was granted in 2019. He noted that since then, the area has continued to receive significant development support.

“We are grateful that after giving us a district, you continued to send development resources. Today we have electricity, water, health facilities, ICT services, and better roads,” Nasasira said.

He commended the district leadership and the NRM campaign machinery, describing it as “one of the most well-organized campaigns in the country,” and predicted a landslide victory.

Nasasira thanked Museveni for “liberating Uganda from backwardness,” adding that poverty levels had fallen drastically over the years. He also presented community requests, including the construction of the Kazo–Kyegegwa road, extension of water from Ibanda to Kazo, and the establishment of a technical institute. He lauded government scientists for advancements in vaccine development and tick resistance.

President Museveni, in his address, emphasized that peace and unity remained the foundation of Uganda’s progress, crediting the NRM for ending sectarian divisions and building strong security institutions.

He highlighted major infrastructure achievements, citing roads connecting Lyantonde, Kiruhura, Kazo, Ibanda, Kamwenge, and Fort Portal.

The President assured residents that government would deliver more services, including water from Katonga and the upgrade of Kazo Health Centre IV to hospital status. He also confirmed that construction of the road through Kyegegwa and Hapuyo would soon begin, following agreements with Chinese partners.

Museveni used the rally to remind citizens about the difference between development and personal wealth, urging them to embrace commercial farming and better animal husbandry. He praised model farmers in the region and encouraged residents to adopt high-output practices such as large-scale animal feed production.

“Uganda is fortunate to have abundant coffee and milk. Our farmers are already benefiting, and we no longer import milk from Kenya,” he said, pointing to improved agricultural output under initiatives like Operation Wealth Creation.

He also highlighted job creation driven by industrial parks, noting that Mbale Industrial City employs about 12,000 people while Namanve hosts over 44,000 workers.

Museveni concluded by urging NRM supporters to continue focusing on wealth creation at household level, saying it was the key to sustainable prosperity.
