Man Kills Biological Son Over Shs 5,000

Police in Rukungiri is holding a man accused of killing his biological son over Shillings 5000.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional police spokesperson identified the suspect as a 68-year-old Eric John Magara, a resident of Maaya cell, Kitimba ward, Western division in Rukungiri municipality.

The deceased is Evart Magara aka Rwamutwe, 31, a resident of the same village.

According to Maate, the incident happened on Sunday night at around 7:30 PM at the deceased’s mother’s shop in Mayaa trading center.

Maate narrated that it all started when one of the residents identified as Onesmus Turyazayo gave the deceased Shillings 5000 to remove Shillings 1000 and return his balance, a thing he did not do. Turyazayo reported the matter to the deceased’s father leading to a manhunt until they landed on him at his mother’s shop.

He said Magara descended on his son and beat him to death. He said police received information and swung into action under the command of Victor Arimpa leading to the arrest of Magara. Police took the deceased’s body to Rwakabengo health centre III for postmortem.

Police have opened inquiries under Rukungiri central police station vide reference number SD 43/03/06/2021. Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner, Stephen Bewayo Nsubuga has advised the public to control their anger to avoid committing crimes.

“Stop taking laws in your hands and learn how to control your anger, failure to do so you will end up being jailed,” Bewayo said.
