UPDF’s Deputy Chief of Defense Intelligence and Security, Brig. Abdul Rugumayo has challenged legal officers to desist from soliciting for deployment opportunities, but rather focus on career growth.

While presiding over the pass out of legal officers at the legal training center-LTC in Jinja City on Saturday, Rugumayo argues that, opportunities await only for those who have prepared themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills.

The three weeks course attracted 27 officers from different UPDF units, with three of them being women.

The course participants who largely are prosecutors and investigators were trained in criminal law modules, scene of crime management, examination of witnesses, national laws, among others.

Rugumayo argues that, the UPDF systems favor career growth of all its officers, with the main goal of easing quality service to their country.

He further says that, the habit of using lobbying threatens their future career.

Rugumayo further advised the teaching staff at the training center to incorporate a number of officers from the same unit, as a means of increasing their capacity to effectively advise commanders.

Rugumayo argues that, when systems are streamlined to enable legal officers exercise their mandates, it will quicken efforts of maintaining the force’s core values.

Rugumayo also cautioned legal officers against involving themselves in acts of corruption, discrimination, favouritism, among other vices, which underscore their effective performance in the justice, law and order sector.

The Commandant of the center, Susan Mwanga advised graduands to persistently embrace knowledge, as a means of exhibiting outstanding performance as legal officers.

“Legal officers should showcase their expertise and quench out not for knowledge because legal matters are dynamic,” she says.URN
