The Minister for Kampala Betty Amongi has come under fire for allegedly failing to account for Shs 1Bn out of the Shs 2bn Covid-19 funds allocated to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

In March, government passed a Covid-19 supplementary budget where KCCA received funds for some of the items that were already funded under Ministry of Health allocation and for the Covid-19 taskforce.

Sources inside KCCA, allege that out of 2Bn allocated, Shs1 Billion was diverted and remained in hands of three people, the minister inclusive. The rest of KCCA staff of over One thousand headed by the health department were given only 1Bn and up-to date, they wonder what the balance did.

We’ve learnt that these have turned guns to the minister demanding for accountability of the said funds. They further allege that most of the items used were already accounted for under the Health Ministry budget. These items included risk communication, coordination, vulnerability mapping, and profiling.

Meanwhile, the KCCA Spokesperson has since refuted allegations and confirmed to this website that it’s not true and if there is desire for accountability, they are rightful ways of getting it.

This is a developing story..
