The State Minister for Works, Hon. Francis Musa Ecweru, has officially withdrawn from the Amuria County parliamentary race, marking the end of two decades in active politics.

The announcement, made on Wednesday afternoon, comes after the minister’s decision to contest as an independent candidate following his defeat in the NRM primaries to Mr. Samuel Ediau.

In a statement released through his campaign team, Ecweru said his decision was reached after “careful reflection and wide consultations” with party leaders, elders, and community members.

According to his chief campaign agent, Mr. Nathan Okiror, a formal letter of withdrawal will be submitted to the Amuria District Electoral Commission to officially communicate Ecweru’s exit from the 2026 parliamentary contest.

Party leaders have since welcomed the minister’s move, describing it as a gesture of loyalty and unity within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Ecweru, who has represented Amuria County for 20 years, thanked his supporters for their unwavering trust and pledged to continue serving the nation in other capacities.
