Mirai doubles down on campaign to guide motorists through IRA’s digital MTP transition

As Uganda through the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) completes the phased move from physical to digital Motor Third-Party (MTP) stickers, Mirai Insurance is stepping up its campaign to educate and support motorists through the change. With IRA now issuing only digital MTP records, many drivers remain uncertain about what the shift means for everyday compliance and security. Mirai, a long-standing leader in motor third-party distribution, is positioning itself as the trusted partner to make the transition seamless, secure and accessible for every motorist.

At its core, a digital MTP sticker is not a piece of paper glued to a windscreen but an electronic insurance record stored in the national IRA database. The move to digital was driven by a clear regulatory objective: eliminate fraud, modernize enforcement and align motor insurance with the broader digitisation of public services. Instead of relying on a physical label that could be lost, copied or forged, enforcement officers now verify cover in real time against the central IRA system.

That change has raised understandable concerns. “Will I be stopped or penalised if I don’t have a physical sticker?” is a frequent question. Mirai’s answer is simple: once you are insured, you are visible instantly to authorities through the IRA system. Compliance is therefore based on a secure digital record rather than a physical object, offering more reliable proof of cover for motorists and clearer visibility for law enforcement.

Security is a major practical advantage. The old sticker system created opportunities for counterfeiters; the digital MTP framework removes that vulnerability. Policies issued directly into the IRA system cannot be altered, duplicated or forged, meaning motorists and insurers alike are better protected against fraud. For drivers, that translates into greater certainty that their cover is real and will be recognised when needed.

Recognising that some motorists are more comfortable with physical processes, Mirai has tailored its campaign to serve every customer segment. The company has streamlined purchase and renewal to work easily on a mobile phone, while its nationwide agent network remains central to the strategy. Mirai’s more than 200 trained agents operate as on-the-ground guides, helping customers understand the digital process, complete purchases, make payments and confirm their cover in the IRA system. For many motorists, especially those transitioning from the old sticker system, these agents provide reassurance, hands-on support and clear, immediate answers.

Beyond practical assistance, Mirai is focused on clear communication. The campaign explains the benefits of digital MTP cover: instant issuance, no risk of lost paperwork, faster renewals, improved fraud protection, and an environmentally friendly move away from single-use materials. It also addresses myths and misinformation in the market, giving motorists the facts they need to make informed decisions.

Competition in the digital insurance space has intensified, with several providers promoting their own solutions. Mirai believes its combination of early compliance, trusted systems, comprehensive agent support and a customer-first education programme sets it apart. “We’re not simply selling policies, we’re simplifying change for motorists, making sure every driver, whether tech-savvy or not, can access secure, recognised cover quickly and confidently,” says  Joseph Nsubuga, Mirai Insurance Uganda C.E.O.

Mirai’s campaign also prioritises accessibility. The company has invested in user-friendly online interfaces and step-by-step guidance materials, while ensuring agents remain available across urban and rural locations. The goal is to make the digital experience intuitive and to ensure no motorist is left behind by the regulatory shift.

For motorists still hesitant about digital MTP, Mirai’s message is practical and urgent: act now to avoid gaps in cover and to benefit from a more secure, faster insurance process. With Mirai’s combined digital platforms and agent network, motorists can obtain or renew third-party insurance quickly, verify their status in the IRA system and drive with confidence.
