Kiboga – First National Vice Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Alhajji Moses Kigongo, has called on party leaders and supporters to conduct peaceful, respectful campaigns as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni took his campaign trail to Kiboga District.
Addressing supporters at Ssaza Grounds in Kiboga Tuesday, Kigongo urged NRM mobilisers to engage voters calmly and courteously, stressing that peace and discipline during the election period are essential for consolidating support for the party and safeguarding national stability.
President Museveni, who drew a mammoth crowd to the rally, echoed the importance of responsible politics, calling on Ugandans to make informed choices at the ballot.
He warned against trivialising elections, saying leadership decisions determine whether a country enjoys stability or slides into conflict.
Citing the 1962 elections, the President noted that poor political choices in the past had plunged the country into violence and loss of life.
The President appealed to the people of Kiboga to vote for him and other NRM flagbearers in the forthcoming elections in order to protect the party’s gains.
He highlighted four of the NRM’s seven key contributions over the last four decades—peace, development, wealth creation and job creation—saying these have transformed Kiboga from insecurity to sustained stability and growth.
Museveni underscored peace as the foundation of all progress, noting that Kiboga has enjoyed uninterrupted stability for over 40 years.
He attributed this to the NRM’s rejection of sectarian politics based on religion, tribe, gender or age, as well as inclusive leadership and government programmes such as immunisation that have improved social outcomes.
On development, the President pointed to investments in roads, electricity, telecommunications and railways, citing the Hoima–Kiboga road as a key milestone.
He pledged further upgrades to roads linking Kiboga to neighbouring districts and said anticipated oil production will provide resources to accelerate delayed infrastructure projects.
Turning to wealth creation, Museveni emphasised household income as the backbone of national prosperity, urging families to embrace commercial agriculture and enterprise under the NRM’s four-acre model.
On job creation, he said opportunities stem from agriculture, factories, services and ICT, complemented by government skilling centres that are equipping young people with practical trades.
Speaker of Parliament and Second NRM National Vice Chairperson (Female), Rt Hon. Anita Annet Among, thanked the President for tarmacking the Hoima–Kiboga road, saying it has eased transport and boosted trade.
She also appealed for the establishment of a coffee processing factory in the district to enhance value addition and farmers’ incomes.
NRM Vice Chairperson for Central Region, Hon. Haruna Kasolo, assured residents that the NRM government has delivered on its commitments and will continue to do more with renewed electoral support.
Kiboga District NRM Chairperson, Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, praised the President for restoring peace and strengthening security through the establishment of police stations in previously affected areas.
She also commended the rehabilitation of the Hoima–Kampala road and hailed wealth creation programmes such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, saying many households in Kiboga have benefited.
