President Museveni is expected to address the country this Sunday at 8pm as Ugandans expect a glimpse of hope amid skyrocketing prices of fuel and essential commodities

Ms. Lindah Nabusayi, the Senior Presidential Press Secretary confirmed this in a Thursday morning tweet saying the presidential address will mainly focus on the rising prices and the country’s current economic situation at large.

“@KagutaMuseveni will this Sunday May 22, 2022, at 8pm address the Nation to update Ugandans on the current Economic situation. The address will be broadcast live from Nakasero State Lodge. Please save date & tune in, to all Television and Radios @KennethOmona,” Nabusayi said in a Tweet.

The presidential address comes at the backdrop of sarcastic comments from Finance Minister Matia Kasaija who said Ugandans should embrace for more tough times ahead as the government is not willing to reduce taxes, not even the rising fuel and commodity prices.

A number of commodities have seen their prices increase at a terrific speed , a situation which has mainly been attributed to the Russia-Ukraine war that saw fuel and gas prices go up.

The cost of soap for example has more than doubled from 3500 Shillings a bar to 7500 Shillings, While Petrol has shot up to 5500shs and DIesel is now between 5000-5600 at various fuel stations.
