Nathan Kikku Mubiru: Serious Questions For Erias Lukwago With Katonga “A One-Man Army & A Nervous Wreck”

The renegades declared their worst demonstration against poor roads in the country and starting a fundamental revolution looks difficult to achieve.

This unanticipated union between Katonga and Kavuule may not have had top billing in the grand scheme of things, but it had huge implications for Elias Lukwago and Katonga.

The opposition faithful were disappointed with their leaders. Their anger was palpable after Lukwago sat and waited for media coverage in his home and an unserious Besigye act of planting a banana tree in a road under construction which saw government leapfrog the group in public opinion, sending the under-pressure group into the disarray.

An excellent Winnie Kizza speech which opened the conference and a late Kyagulanyi consolation were all supporters had to shout about in what was likely their worst presser in history.

Pressure on Lukwago

The recent undefeated run at high court for political cases was Lukwago’s one saving grace. However, the federalist was exposed as, with most of his colleagues, he still couldn’t win a case against the party directly.

You have to wonder whether he is partly at fault for not building a team out of this disparate group of young followers.

Besigye or burst
Besigye remains an incredible leader who can deliver both quality and calmness, and he was head and shoulders above his colleagues here, but anxiety ran through the rest of them.

Ssemujju Nganda once dubbed NUP the “Bobi Wine party”, Katonga are now the “Besigye goons”.
