The National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) party has tasked Ugandan government to come up with new electoral reforms before the next national elections.

This was during their first press conference of 2024 which took place on January 29, 2024 at their party offices in Rubaga, Kampala.

The party Spokesperson, Asuman Odaka called upon all political parties, the civil society and the inter-religious council to stop “fooling” Ugandans with claims of democratic elections, stating that it will always be the same results.

“We do not expect different results from an election in a country where the President still has power of incumbency during elections where he appoints the Electoral Commissioners and the IGP, and expect better results,” he said.

Odaka said that the civil society and the inter-religious council should not be intimidated to speak up against the electoral injustices like arrests of opposition members, and the murder of citizens.

“This country belongs to all of us, do not be intimidated to speak up because of all the wrongs going on in the country because if we go into the next elections with the same reforms, then we are headed the worst elections ever with the most bloodshed,” he added.

The electoral reforms the NEED party has tasked the government to change include, Power of incumbency, Vote tallying methods and Voters register or registration, among others.(nexusm)
