A member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Olivia Lutaaya, has been charged and remanded in connection with allegations of engaging in unauthorized military-style drills at the party’s offices in Makerere-Kavule, Kampala.
Lutaaya was reportedly apprehended last Friday, together with several other NUP supporters, on the same day party leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, traveled to Bwizibwera in Mbarara District to mobilize support ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Prosecution claims that on February 12, 2025, Lutaaya and others some of whom are still at large organized and participated in drills and formations resembling military training, in violation of Section 45(1)(b) of the Penal Code Act.
She has now been added to an ongoing case involving other NUP members, including Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, Head of Security Edward Ssebufu (alias Eddie Mutwe), Sauda Madaada, and several others. The group is facing multiple charges, including unlawful drilling and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Lutaaya appeared before the Kawempe Chief Magistrate’s Court, which remanded her until November 18, 2025, as investigations continue.
