Old Mutual Investment Group Uganda (OMIG) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ugandans protect, manage and grow their money through disciplined and professionally managed investment solutions with the Unit Trust campaign. Running under the message “Your Money Is Serious Business,” the campaign will increase public understanding of Unit Trusts and encourage more Ugandans to make consistent investing part of their long-term financial planning.

The campaign will particularly engage salaried professionals, established professionals, entrepreneurs, business owners and experienced investors seeking structured ways to grow their money while retaining visibility and control over their investments.

Unit Trusts are collective investment schemes through which money from different investors is pooled and professionally invested in a diversified portfolio of assets. This enables individual investors to access professional fund management and diversification without having to independently select and manage every investment.

Uganda’s collective investment industry has expanded considerably as more people seek accessible and professionally managed investment options. According to the Capital Markets Authority, collective investment schemes had UGX 1.15 trillion in assets under management and 32,998 investor accounts by November 2024. Old Mutual Investment Group remains a licensed collective investment scheme manager offering Money Market, Balanced, Dollar and Umbrella Unit Trust schemes in Uganda.

The campaign will highlight the role that investing can play in helping individuals protect the purchasing power of their money, work towards defined financial objectives and build wealth through consistent contributions over time.

Speaking about the campaign, Zac Kiseesi, Managing Director of Old Mutual Investment Group Uganda, highlighted that Old Mutual is reinforcing its investment proposition at a time when Ugandans are becoming increasingly deliberate about how they save and grow their money.

“Money represents the plans, responsibilities and ambitions that people work hard to achieve. It should therefore be managed with the seriousness, discipline and professional oversight it deserves. Through this campaign, we want to help more Ugandans understand that investing is not reserved for a small group of financial experts or wealthy individuals. It is a responsible financial behaviour that people can adopt progressively as they work towards their goals.”

“Old Mutual Investment Group combines long-standing financial-services experience with professional fund management and convenient digital systems. Our objective is to give investors’ confidence that their money is being managed responsibly while enabling them to view, deposit, withdraw and track their investments more conveniently.”

OMIG’s Unit Trust offering allows customers to begin investing from UGX 100,000. Investors can access their accounts through the OMIG Wealth App and the Old Mutual online portal. Through these channels, customers can open Unit Trust accounts, make deposits, initiate withdrawals and track the performance of their investments. The digital channels are intended to provide greater convenience, transparency and portfolio visibility while preserving access to professional investment guidance.

The campaign aims to further educate customers about additional protection benefits available to qualifying investors who maintain or grow their Unit Trust balances. These include education, disability and life-related protection benefits designed to help investors continue pursuing their long-term goals while managing unexpected life events.

“Trust is particularly important when people are deciding where to place their savings and investments,” Kiseesi added. “Trust is built through sound governance, transparency, consistent service and the responsible management of customers’ funds. We want existing and prospective investors to know that they can engage with a regulated institution that has the experience, systems and professional expertise required to support their investment journey over time.”

The campaign comes amid increasing public interest in Uganda’s Unit Trust market, with more Ugandans seeking solutions on how to grow their wealth. OMIG continues to leverage its institutional heritage, established fund-management experience, digital accessibility and a focus on sustainable, long-term financial growth.

The campaign will also translate technical investment information into practical guidance for Ugandans at different income levels and stages of their financial journeys.

Old Mutual Investment Group Uganda is regulated by the Capital Markets Authority.
