Arim Felix, a complainant in a criminal case No. 292 of 2022 (Uganda Vs Mehmet Ozgur Bilir) has dragged Grade I Magistrate of Nakawa Court to the Inspectorate of Courts over professional conduct. Arim is battling Bilir, the country manager of Gulsan Construction Company undertaking construction work with government of Uganda.

In the criminal case, Bilir appeared before Akello Irene on 10 June 2022 on offences including trafficking in person, causing grievous harm and malicious damage. Bilir was duely charged and was meant to be remanded.

However, according to Arim, upon the close of business that day, the magistrate and the accused with some of his friends remained moving in and out from the Chambers of the Magistrate. Arim says that Bilir was set free at 6pm under the terms he does not. The prosecutor and the investigator as well did not know the terms of the release.

Against the above background, Arim has rushed to IC over the conduct of the magistrate.
“Therefore, it’s my humble request that this office carry out a serious investigation about the conduct of the afore mention magistrate and take disciplinary action against her with immediate effect,” Arim says.

He wants his file to be allocated to another magistrate to seek justice and further proper management of the case without fear, favour and corrupt tendencies.SR
