Police Pledge Justice For The Family Of Driver Ssemwaka, Shot By An Officer Near Sheraton Hotel

The head of the Community Policing Department, CP Anatoli Muleterwa, has assured the family of the late Ssemwaka Julius that police are committed to delivering justice after he was fatally shot by a police officer on December 23, 2024.

Ssemwaka was shot dead by PC Bahati Charles on Sezibwa Road in Kampala. Following the incident, PC Bahati fled and remains in hiding. CP Muleterwa met with the grieving family to express condolences and provide updates on the ongoing manhunt for the suspect.

“We understand the pain this family is going through. The Uganda Police Force is actively searching for PC Bahati Charles, and we will not rest until he is found and held accountable,” CP Muleterwa stated.

He emphasized that the police are taking the matter seriously and will keep the family informed on any progress in the investigation. He also encouraged anyone with information on PC Bahati’s whereabouts to come forward.

“We urge members of the public to assist in locating the suspect. Any information, no matter how small, could be crucial in ensuring justice for Ssemwaka Julius and his family,” he added.

The killing of Ssemwaka Julius has sparked concern among the public regarding police accountability. Community members have called for a thorough investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, the police leadership has reassured the public that disciplinary measures will be enforced to ensure officers adhere to the highest professional standards.

As the search for PC Bahati Charles continues, the family of Ssemwaka Julius remains hopeful that justice will be served. The police have promised full transparency and action to address their concerns.
