Police Speaks Out On Arrest Of Opposition MPs,Kisekka Market Riots

Police has clarified on the events that happened during the first day nomination exercise of members of parliament around Kampala Metropolitan area.

Metropolitan police spokesperson  Patrick Onyango revealed that several  police officers were deployed in strategic places to ensure that the exercise was carried out smoothly without any major problem.
Onyango said that there were candidates who were trying to defy the EC guidelines of moving in two cars and for them they were travelling in a procession of motorcycles and motor vehicles. Notably, they are Hon. Ssemujju Nganda of Kira Municipality, Hon. Allan Ssewanyana of Makindye West, Hon. Betty Nambooze of Mukono Municipality, Hon. Kato Lubwoma of Lubaga South, Wakayima Hannington Musoke, a candidate in Nansana Municipality, Mr Farouk Ntege in Makindye Division, Mr. Mathias Mulumba candidate for Kawempe North. They were handled professionally by restraining them from holding processions.
” Over 15 motor vehicles that were part of Hon. Ssemujju’s convoy were impounded at parked at Nansana Police Station. Two suspects were arrested.
Two motorcycles were also impounded.
Hon. Ssewanyana and Ntege are being held at Katwe Police Station. Hon. Ssewanyana is being held with over 31 of his supporters”he said.

Mr Onyango added that in Kisekka Market, a group of youth attacked joint security team, who were on normal routine patrol in that area, by pelting them with stones.
They damaged a military vehicle and they responded with teargas.
Four suspects were arrested and detained at CPS Kampala.
