Uganda Police are investigating circumstances where a number of yet to be known thugs broke into the ancestral home of the Late Archbishop of Kampala Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire the Kampala Metropolitan deputy spokesperson, the incident took place on Friday, April 16, 2020, around at 1 am.

“The territorial Police of Nagalama are investigating an incident of an aggravated robbery that occurred today around 1 am at the ancestral home of the Late Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga located at Kyabakadde village, Kyabakade Parish in Kyampisi Sub-county, Mukono District,” Owoyesigire said.

Police further noted that over 15 thugs in number had pangas, sticks and breaking implements.

“They gained entry of the Late Archbishop’s residence after cutting the perimeter fence,” said Owoyesigire.

“They attacked the occupants in the house and robbed mobile phones, cash totaling to Shs250,000 from two victims. The suspects later tied the victims before they fled.”

According to Owoyesigyire, Police have since recovered some exhibits from the crime scene and also arrested a suspect.

“A hunt for the rest is ongoing. The suspect, who lives in the same home, went missing during the robbery. He resurfaced at 6:00 am, creating a suspicion that he might have been behind the robbery,” said Owoyesigire

Born on January, 19, 1953, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga was a Ugandan Roman Catholic prelate who served as Archbishop of Kampala from 2006 to his death

Dr. Lwanga, 68, passed on on April, 3, 2020 and according to Post mortem report, he succumbed to a heart problem arising from a blood clot.
