President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has assured Ugandans that the forthcoming elections will be conducted in a peaceful environment, urging voters to turn up in large numbers and exercise their democratic right without fear or intimidation.

Addressing a campaign rally at Kibale Grounds in Rakai District on Thursday, the NRM Presidential Candidate said peace remains the ruling party’s first and most important achievement, warning citizens against actions or politics that could undermine the stability the country has enjoyed for decades.

“On the day of voting, go out and vote freely and massively. No one will disturb you,” Museveni told supporters, stressing that security agencies are fully capable of maintaining law and order throughout the electoral period.

The President attributed Uganda’s sustained peace to the NRM’s rejection of sectarian politics, the presence of a disciplined national army, and a well-organised political party. He cautioned that peace should never be taken for granted, citing recent unrest in other countries as a reminder of how quickly instability can reverse development gains.

“Do not play with peace. A cow that wants to die kisses the axe,” Museveni said, urging voters to make choices that safeguard national stability.

Museveni linked peace directly to development, noting that without security, progress in infrastructure, health, education and economic growth would not be possible. He said the government continues to prioritise roads, water, health facilities and energy as part of its broader development agenda.

The President also encouraged voters to elect leaders who understand the importance of cooperation and prioritisation in Parliament, arguing that delays in development often arise when political leaders fail to work together.

He reiterated the NRM’s commitment to wealth creation and job creation, saying government programmes are designed to enable citizens to improve household incomes through agriculture, industry and enterprise.

Museveni is on a campaign tour of the Greater Masaka sub-region as he seeks to retain the NRM presidential flag ahead of the 2026 general elections.
