The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially unveiled singer-turned-politician Mukiibi Sadat, popularly known as Kalifah Aganaga, as their flag bearer for the upcoming Kawempe North by-election. This follows the death of the constituency’s former Member of Parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya, who was a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

Aganaga, known for his music career and political activism, will be facing stiff competition from candidates representing other major political parties, including NUP, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), the Democratic Party (DP), and the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).

Speaking at the unveiling event held at the FDC offices in Najjanankumbi, Aganaga expressed confidence in his ability to represent the people of Kawempe North. He promised to focus on youth empowerment, employment opportunities, and improving service delivery in the area.

“I have been in the ghetto, and I understand the struggles of the people in Kawempe North. My leadership will be about real change, not empty promises,” he said.

The by-election is expected to be highly competitive, given that Kawempe North has been a stronghold for the opposition. NUP, which previously held the seat, is also set to announce its candidate, with expectations of a tough political battle.

Political analysts believe Aganaga’s entry into the race could shake up the opposition dynamics, especially if he manages to pull support from the youth and entertainment industry. However, his political inexperience may pose a challenge in a constituency known for its strong political engagement.

With campaigns set to kick off soon, all eyes are on Kawempe North as different parties prepare to battle for the seat left vacant by the late Ssegirinya.
