Uganda Police with sister security operatives have arrested and detained two men on suspicion of killing a herdsman and stealing 24 head of cattle.
Police identified the suspects as Kamu Nanjo and Isaac Odema both detained at Kajjansi Police Station as investigations continue.
According to preliminary reports, Kajjansi police first registered a case of cattle theft and disappearance of a herdsman on Tuesday when businessman Simon Ssekaayi, reported that his cattle and sheep valued 36 million Shillings had been stolen by unknown people and that his herdsman was missing.

In his statement, Ssekayi, a resident of Kitovu, Ssisa Subcounty, Wakiso District, identified the missing herdsman only as Kamugisha.

“Information was sent out about the theft on different police communication channels and Police in Kikajo intercepted the suspects for being in possession of suspected stolen cattle and sheep,” Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango said.

Upon interrogation, according to Onyango, the suspects confessed to have stolen the animals from Kitovu and that they had killed the herdsman.
“The suspects led police to the scene where they murdered Kamugisha and the body was recovered. The scene was examined and the body was taken to City Mortuary for postmortem,” Onyango said.

Nanjo and Odema are currently detained at Kajjansi Police. They are charged with murder and cattle theft.

The Criminal Investigations Directorate Directorate- CID records of 2018 show more than 4,000 people were killed in property-related wrangles and domestic violence.
