Mukono District – Pamela Tumwebaze, the Director of Students Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono, has been tragically killed by unknown assailants in what police have described as a case of murder by strangulation.

Tumwebaze, 46, was reportedly last seen addressing students at Nkoyoyo Hall before returning to her residence in Seeta, Goma Division, Mukono District, on Tuesday night.

According to police sources, the incident was registered under Mukono CRB 195/2026 as murder by strangulation at Ganvu West Cell, Seeta Ward. Police say information about the suspected murder was received at around 5:00am on February 11, 2026, from a reliable source.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the assailant gained entry into her home at approximately 2:00am. Tumwebaze was allegedly strangled during the attack and later rushed to Mukono Namirembe Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A team of police officers led by ASP Alituha, the Officer in Charge of Mukono Police Station, together with Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), visited and documented the scene.

Her body remains at Namirembe Hospital pending transfer to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Police revealed that the deceased had been staying with her two children, Elijah and Noah, aged between 10 and 13 years, as well as a 20-year-old housemaid identified as Lwantale Sharif.

On the night of the incident, Tumwebaze reportedly returned home at around 10:00pm with her children. The housemaid opened the gate and the house for them before locking up.

Investigators believe the assailant may have gained access to the premises at the time the housemaid went to open the gate.

After committing the crime, the suspect allegedly ordered the housemaid to hand over the keys to the main door. He reportedly left with a laptop bag containing items yet to be established. Tumwebaze’s mobile phone is also said to be missing.

Police have launched investigations into the matter and are pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.

The killing has sent shockwaves through the UCU community and Mukono District at large, as colleagues, students, and residents mourn the loss of a senior university official.
