The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Battle Group 45, serving under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Somali security forces to strengthen joint operations against Al-Shabaab and enhance civilian protection.

This commitment was underscored during a meeting between the Battle Group 45 Commander, Colonel Justus Musenene, and Somali security officials held at the Battle Group 45 Headquarters in Barawe.

Col Musenene emphasised the importance of cooperation in countering the evolving tactics of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group, noting that joint efforts remain critical to sustaining security gains in the region.

“We are here to support our Somali brothers and sisters in maintaining peace and stability. Only through close coordination and unity of effort can we defeat the enemy,” Col Musenene said.

Barawe District Commissioner, Mr Cumar Abdullaahi, highlighted the importance of joint action in confronting the terrorist threat and ensuring the safety of civilians. He commended UPDF troops under AUSSOM for their role in maintaining stability in the area.

The 66 Brigade Commander, Colonel Liiban Yusuf Gare, called on all security agencies to remain united in the fight against terrorism, stressing that coordinated efforts are essential to restoring peace and security across Somalia.

The meeting was attended by senior and junior officers from the Somali National Army and AUSSOM, the Barawe Police Commander, as well as local government officials and community leaders.
