The army has killed at least 20 people suspected of attacking a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) detach in Zombo town council in northern Uganda today morning.

The suspected attackers were killed today afternoon during fierce gunfire with UPDF soldiers who pursued them in Konga village, Patek parish in Jangukuru sub county about 40 kilometres away from Zombo town council army detach.

The attackers who were reportedly armed with machetes, bows and arrows invaded the army detach at about 12:30 am today morning and killed three UPDF soldiers and torched several huts before fleeing away.

Zombo resident district commissioner Andrew Kajoyingi told URN in an interview on Friday that the attackers whose numbers couldn’t be verified stole three AK-47 guns from the army detach and fled away.

He says UPDF soldiers followed the attackers early this morning but interfaced with them this afternoon, some 40 kilometres away from where gunfire exchanges ensued between the soldiers and the attackers.

According to Kajoyingi, ten of the attackers have been captured alive. He says the army is continuing to pursue the attackers following reinforcement from Arua.

Sad to hear this!

How can civilians armed with pangas and arrows storm and attack a fully armed army detach with guns? This is ridiculous and suicidal!Look at the repercussions now… At least 10 civilians killed! There should be st we need to know that the UPDF should tell us that they’re hiring… Why the enmity?
