The Uganda Electoral Commission has warned citizens over fraudster conning money from people while promising to secure them jobs at the Electoral Commission.

This comes at a time when a group of shrewd conmen sent out advertisements indicating that the Commission is recruiting staff to fill various positions, something that that EC has refuted.

As such, the EC on Tuesday December 31, 2019 issued the following statement;

Warning About Fictitious Vacancy Announcements

The Electoral Commission has noted a fictitious vacancy announcement circulating on various social media platforms calling for applications to fill positions within its structure at the district level, that is, Sub County Supervisor, Parish Supervisor and Enrollment Officers.

The Electoral Commission would like to inform and warn the general public that this is a fake job announcement designed and placed by fraudulent persons with the intention of misleading and extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public.

Please note that the recruitment and appointment of temporary field election staff is done in a transparent process, where vacant positions are announced in mainstream media channels and the official Electoral Commission website: www.ec.or.ug.

The warning letter from the Electoral Commission

In addition to the above, the Electoral Commission does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process for any position in its structure.

The Electoral Commission requests any member of the public, who receives such an offer for a job with the Commission in a manner contrary to the above, to report to the nearest Police Station, or their respective District Electoral Commission office, or the Electoral Commission Head Office located on Plot 55 Jinja Road, Kampala.

The public can also use the following telephone numbers to notify the Commission of such cases: 0414 337500/0414 337513 or 0312 211050.

The Electoral Commission warns the general public to watch against scams using the organisation’s name or claiming to be acting on our behalf.

Sam A. Rwakoojo  Secretary, Electoral Commission
